Master Trainer program graduates will be able to:

  • 01 Design and implement an exercise program for an individual’s specific situations and goals, based on currently accepted protocols
  • 02 Describe primary functions of muscles and joints during specific exercises in order to create appropriate programming and instruct proper exercise application
  • 03 Describe primary concepts of human physiology at rest and during exercise, and describe the basic principles of nutrition and how they relate to health and exercise programs
  • 04 Determine an individual’s level of participation in an exercise program based on physician recommendation and/or the presence of risk factors
  • 05 Determine and establish appropriate health and fitness goals
  • 06 Define and describe program modifications for special populations
  • 07 Identify legal issues and their ramifications as they apply to the personal fitness training profession
  • 08 Obtain a fitness-related position in the areas of athletics or healthcare, or with private organizations

Certificate Curriculum

Graduates of the program earn the Master Trainer designation, plus six individual fitness certifications through ISSA LLC. Finish the program in as few as two quarters as an accelerated full-time student, or pace your coursework over time for up to six quarters.

Will I have support during my education?

Each student is assigned a program advisor who is available to answer questions, provide support, and guide your progress through the program. Instructors engage from day one, hold regular office hours via the online classroom, and provide individual in-depth feedback.

What types of financial aid do you accept?

Lionel University degree programs and Master Trainer Certificate programs are eligible for federal student aid.

Lionel empowers you to complete your education on your timeline, which is why we have classes starting almost every month.

How many hours of study time should I expect each week?

A good rule of thumb is 10-15 hours of study time per course, per week. Full-time students spend about 40 hours studying each week when taking a full course load.

Do I need to pay for textbooks?

No! A digital version of the textbook is embedded in each course at no additional cost. Unrestricted access is available seven days prior to the start of class and throughout the quarter.

How does certification work?

Upon successful completion of Lionel University certification coursework and submission of Basic Adult CPR/AED/First Aid card, professional certification is awarded by ISSA LLC. ISSA, LLC is a separate professional certifying organization that awards, monitors, and renews professional certification. ISSA LLC is neither owned nor operated by Lionel University. ISSA LLC verifies and awards professional certification approximately 6-8 weeks following the end of the course. ISSA LLC professional certification is valid for two years and is renewable according to ISSA LLC terms.
